About the local area

The range of activities, facilities and experiences on offer within an hour’s drive of Whites Level House are vast and diverse: From city centre shopping in Swansea or Cardiff, to walking coastal paths or basking on award-winning beaches, the list is endless but there is much to be found nearby. Set within the 48 square miles of Afan Forest Park and being near the edge of the awe-inspiring, Brecon Beacons National Park, Whites Level House really does provide a haven for those with a passion for the great outdoors. With the Glyncorrwg ponds and Mountain Bike Centre less than half a mile from the house, adventure is close at hand: Its cafe provides a great spot for refuelling and recuperating after tackling some of the way-marked routes, world famous bike trails or water sports on offer, while a 40 minute drive through the magnificent countryside of the National Park, takes you into waterfall country and to the renown, Ystradfellte Falls, where way-marked routes lead you from one natural spectacle to another. The highlight has to be Sgwd yr Eira, (Fall of Snow) where the River Hepste leaps over a 50ft cliff. A narrow path leads behind the falls and allows the adventurous to look out through this incredible curtain of water! For coastal days, Aberavon Seafront, just 13 miles from Whites Level House, offers a three mile stretch of Blue Flag beach, with its promenade attracting joggers, cyclists and skaters. Being the surfing hot-spot of South Wales, the Approved British Surfing School offers lessons to anyone wanting to give it a go. Meanwhile a journey of 29 miles will take you to Three Cliffs Bay, one of the most photographed areas of the Gower Peninsular; itself, the first place in the UK to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Margam Country Park, a 1000 acres of glorious parklands, offering not just natural beauty but history, wildlife and an all year round programme of fun activities and events, lies just 14 miles from the house and certainly deserves its reputation for providing one of the best family days out in Wales.
With cities, award winning beaches, spectacular scenery, a mass of heritage and every conceivable sporting facility accessible from Whites Level House, whatever the season, it’s easy to create the holiday of your choice. However, to really appreciate all that this richly diverse area has to offer, you’ll need to visit time and time again!
