The cottage is just a short walk from the quay and slipway, where there are excellent launching facilities for sailors, windsurfers and the like. Lower Town is the old port of Fishguard, situated at the mouth of the Gwaun River; its picturesque setting has been made famous as the set for several major films. Local fishermen and pleasure boats add to the attraction and there is a small pub and yacht club, where visitors are welcome. There is access to a small beach via the Marine Path, and visitors can try a bit of crabbing when the tide is i. Fishguard town itself abounds with shops, pubs and restaurants and a sports centre for those rainy days. Day ferries to Ireland are available from Goodwick harbour, for an alternative day out. The Fishguard Folk Festival is in May, Fishguard International Music Festival is held in July and Aberjazz is held in August, these festivals are full of delights and attract many people every year. The sea skirts three sides of the town, dividing it into small harbours and beaches; regattas and sailing races are a weekly event during the summer months and there are usually classes for enthusiastic amateurs of all ages. The nearby Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is a haven for walkers, dog owners, wildlife lovers and anyone with an appreciation of splendid coastal scenery, the coastal path presents one breathtaking discovery after another. Take a drive to the many beaches nearby, such as Cwm yr Eglwys - a picturesque cove located between Fishguard and Newport. It offers safe bathing for families, a narrow slipway for launching small boats and access to the coastal path.
