Just one mile from the sophisticated, medieval coastal town of Newport, lies Ffynnonwen-Bach, a quaint, two bedroomed, character cottage with splendid countryside views. Nestled on the hillside below Carningli (The Mount of Angels) this spacious, yet homely cottage offers a comfortable, peaceful retreat within walking distance of beaches and the many amenities Newport has to offer. Adjacent to the owners’ property and surrounded by 5 acres of their land, the back and side patios offer privacy, tranquillity and the perfect places to dine al fresco against a back-drop of natural beauty. Named after the natural springs that bubble through the owner’s land, Ffynnonwen (Holy/good water in Welsh) Bach stares out onto the ancient landscape that provided the enormous Preseli Blue Stones for the construction of Stonehenge. Those keen to amble amongst the trees, mossy boulders, flora and fauna of this ancient landscape will discover nearby Pentre Ifan, an ancient burial chamber of similar age and fascination. Gelli Fawr , just a few miles into the hills provides a welcoming refreshment stop, lunches and evening meals for those exploring the Preselis. While Newport itself offers a range of dining experiences from traditional Thai curries in The Royal Oak to fine-dining on locally sourced produce in Llys Meddyg (recently given a very favourable review in The Sunday Times).

Newport offers all you’d expect to find in a coastal town; galleries, antiques, post office, bank, pharmacy, coffee shops, pubs, restaurants, fishing, water sports, golf and more but without the trappings of mass tourism. It boasts both a Norman castle and church which stand proudly above its ancient streets and pathways which lead directly to the River Nevern Estuary which teems with wildlife. The Newport Links Golf Course and Resort offers a superb venue for not only enjoying excellent food from its restaurant open to all but also to enjoy an unrivalled, breathtaking view across the estuary to Newport town, the beach, sand dunes and the Preseli Hills beyond. It is the perfect place to watch the sun set.
Perhaps the principle reason why Newport hasn’t fallen victim to the foot-fall of the larger resort towns of South Pembrokeshire, is that there is simply so much to see and do in the surrounding area. Much of Pembrokeshire and the neighbouring county of Ceredigion are accessible within an hour’s drive of Ffynnonwen-Bach. Castles, theme parks, stunning beaches, quaint villages, medieval towns, events and festivals and much, much, more are there to be enjoyed: One adventure after another! St David’s, Britain’s smallest city, thanks to its splendid cathedral, is only 25 miles away. The Port town of Fishguard, just 7 miles away and the bustling market town of Cardigan, just 11 miles away, also offer an array of facilities, sights and experiences. Boat trips from Cardigan’s riverside pontoon take you to the mouth of the River Teifi, a Special Conservation Area, where Bottlenose dolphins, Atlantic grey seals, Harbour porpoises, seabirds, rare choughs and skylarks can all be seen! This area and its wildlife can also be viewed from The Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park in Gwbert, just 3.3 miles from the town centre and if visiting, The Cliff Hotel and The Flat Rock Cafe bar both make great venues for lunches or evening meals while watching the sun set.
On returning to the peace and tranquillity of Ffynnonwen-Bach you can’t fail to appreciate that it provides an ideal holiday base for those seeking to combine a coastal break with the calm, serenity afforded by a rural location.

The owners were very welcoming and the property had all the basic things you look for. It was good to have the owners on hand if needed, and the house was obviously loved and looked after.
Fantastic
