Description

On a headland near St Davids, above dramatic coastal cliffs, this newly renovated three bedroom farmhouse epitomises care, consideration and good taste. From under-floor heating to ipod docking stations, from luxurious, contemporary bathrooms to plasma TVs and dishwasher; no comfort or convenience has been overlooked. Slate floors, tasteful period furnishings and lime washed stone walls sympathetically complete this very thorough renovation while the tri-fold and bi-fold doors frame the spectacular view of Carn Penberry, flood the stylish, well-equipped kitchen with light and cleverly merge inside with out. Dining alfresco in the fresh, salty air, in this immaculately well kept garden, to a chorus of seabirds, has to be the perfect way to end any day of coastal adventure.  Set in the heart of the Pembrokeshire National Coastal Park, Dan-y-Garn is perfectly positioned for making use of some of the 186 miles of path that hug this sensational coastline.

Just 50 yards from the garden, way-marked routes guide walkers through fields, along cliff tops and past the seals basking on the rocks beneath. Two to three hours of ambling northwards will take you to Porthgain with its tiny harbour and undoubtedly the best pub on the whole coastal trail; The Sloop Inn, where sampling the delicious seafood on offer is a must! The coastal shuttle bus can always return you (and your dog) home if you over-indulge.

A two hour amble along the coastal path in the other direction takes you to the stunning Whitesands Bay; home to surf school, local real dairy ice-cream and the Whitesands Beach Cafe and Shop. The cafe serves a good selection of hot and cold food, while the beach itself offers a heavenly place to laze away the afternoon.

Active souls can arrange one coastal adventure after another with TYF Outdoor, the group that introduced Coasteering to the world. Based in St Davids, they invite you to learn to climb, surf, kayak and coasteer around this amazing coastal playground, getting right up close to the marine life it’s shared with. Alternatively, Thousand Islands Expeditions and Voyages of Discovery transport wildlife lovers from St Justinians (just 4 ½ miles away) on the trail of dolphins, seals, porpoises and whales. One of the boat trips on offer will land you on the RSPB Ramsey Island, one of Wales’s most breathtaking nature reserves, where you can take the opportunity to join the warden for the day to discover the wildlife, the island’s history and what it’s like to life and work in such a remote place. Or thrill seekers can choose power-boat trips that journey at speed, deep into caves and through startlingly narrow gullies!

This area offers a nautical adventure to coax everyone onto the sea: A drive of just 14 miles to Fishguard Harbour even gives you the opportunity to pop to Ireland for the day.   Less than four miles down the road, St Davids, the smallest city in the UK is a place of intrigue for many. A place of pilgrimage since the 12th century, its enchanting medieval cathedral remains at its heart. Open daily, with guided tours easily arranged, no holiday in this area would be complete without a visit. Despite being more of a large village than a typical city, St Davids caters well for the modern day pilgrim: Parc Oriel, the impressive visitors’ centre is certainly worth a look around, while shops, galleries, take-aways, bars and restaurants meet all needs. On the High Street, Cwtch (meaning ‘snug’ or ‘cosy’ in Welsh) offers a great menu based on locally sourced produce....and a sensational fish pie!

With Pembrokeshire offering theme parks, sporting venues, zoos, numerous castles, incredible beaches, gardens, nature reserves, quaint seaside towns and villages with water-sports of every kind, pony trekking and even a chocolate factory and vineyard to visit, you’ll be spoilt for choice! However, leaving the style, comfort and tranquillity of Dan-y-Garn is certainly a challenge for everyone.
