Just ¼ of a mile away, the seaside village of Amroth provides more than just an award-winning beach: Shops, cafes and restaurants stare out at the vast expanse of sparkling sand and witness the start (or end) of the 186 miles of Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. Just a mile of so inland, the magical valley garden of Colby Woodland Garden, has something to appeal to the whole family. Owned and cared for by The National Trust they offer a varied programme of events for all ages, a gallery full of local arts and crafts, woodland walks, a stunning walled garden and fantastic afternoon teas. The carpets of bluebells in springtime and the colourful array of autumn foliage can’t be missed! The Amroth Arms, serving hearty pub classics and local fish dishes, provides an ideal re-fuelling spot before ambling home.

Just over a mile in the opposite direction, the coastal hamlet of Wisemans Bridge, with its pub/restaurant virtually on the beach is a superb place for lunches or evening meals. The Coastal Path conveniently links it with Amroth to the east and the larger seaside town of Saundersfoot to the west. Taking the route of an old colliery railway, the path passes through three tunnels between Wisemans Bridge and Saundersfoot (Lit for late night returns!) and along with these tunnels, interesting rock formations and golden sandy beaches, this mile long saunter becomes a memorable experience in itself. Saundersfoot offers plenty: Pubs, restaurants, cafes, shops, galleries, various entertainment venues and scrumptious fish and chips! For fine dining and stunning coastal views, St Brides Hotel, on the cliff overlooking the harbour shouldn’t be missed. Its restaurant, open to all, houses an intriguing collection of contemporary Welsh art, while its spa and treatment facilities provide an oasis of calm for those in search of pampering. With a busy annual events diary, from the St David’s Day (March) markets to the razzmatazz and incredulous sight of the New Year’s Day swim, this town offers something for everyone!

Amble a further 2 ½ miles along the coastal path and find yourself in the Medieval walled town of Tenby. With its stunning beaches offering a host of water-sports and equipment hire, fishing trips, coastal cruises, an 18 hole golf course in the sand dunes as well as quaint, winding streets full of cafes, shops, galleries, bars and restaurants; it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular destination for many. Credited by The Times as one of the top ten places in the world to spend New Year’s Eve, the rest of its annual events won’t disappoint either. The week long Arts festival at the end of September and November’s three day Blues Festival always draw in the crowds. From poetry in pubs to extravagant fire-works at the harbour, such events are run of the mill in this town but the countywide Fish Week in June is one that certainly should not be missed. Cookery demonstrations by celebrity chefs, a whole host of themed events and restaurants from north to south celebrating all that swims in our waters, makes it a must for any foodie. The late summer, Narberth Food Festival serves up another gastronomic delight, showcasing the rich and diverse produce farmed in Pembrokeshire; the Garden of Wales. This intriguing, multi-coloured, Georgian market town lies just 6 miles inland from Corbiere. With unique independent shops, galleries with a vast array of local art and some great eateries, it’s a fantastic place to find those original Christmas gifts. The cafe bar within Ultracomeda, the delicatessen on the High Street, serves lunches and wines that can’t be missed!

Whether in search of retail therapy, pony trekking across the sands or the horrors of Oakwood Theme Park at Halloween, South Pembrokeshire provides it all and much, much more besides. But whatever the event, whatever the adventure, whatever the season, returning to Corbiere, you can’t fail to appreciate the comfort and convenience it offers: Easy access to so much, yet tucked away from the bustling tourist trail, Corbiere provides the perfect place for whatever holiday you wish to create.
