Description

Below the Black Mountains, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, lies Talarbongam, an impressive, 3 bedroomed, detached property within a 4 acre small holding. With an acre of land for guests to use and a footpath leading through the grounds directly on to the majestic Black Mountains and National Park, Talarbongam offers outdoor adventure aplenty. A luxurious roll-top bath, a wood burning stove and a host of comfortable soft furnishings provide the perfect ingredients for rest, relaxation and recuperation after a day in the hills. The privacy afforded by the surrounding land makes its garden the ideal place for barbecuing beneath the stars amidst the carefree chorus of nature. With spacious, yet homely rooms, pleasant views onto the trees and garden and plenty of outdoor space for exuberant children and pets, there’s much to keep you at Talarbongam. However, with the small town of Brynammam very nearby, the convenience of pub meals, take-aways, local cinema and even The Black Mountain Centre with its tourist information and heritage displays, are all easily found.

Adventure just 10 miles along the mountain roads behind Talarbongam against a backdrop of natural beauty and discover Carreg Cennen Castle, voted Welsh building of the Millennium. Its spell-binding views make it Wales’ most dramatically situated castle and history buff or not, it really shouldn’t be missed. Take a torch and explore the caverns cut deep into the cliff beneath its foundations or take one of the circular walks around the castle and past the source of the River Lougher, also the source of the famous Brecon Carreg Mineral Water. The tearooms offer lunches, great homemade cakes and always a bowl of hearty, traditional cawl. With the picturesque, ancient town of Llandelio, brimming with boutiques, galleries and antique shops, just a short hop away, don’t miss the chance to dine at The Angel Hotel, with its delicious contemporary dishes and elegant, yet relaxed atmosphere. Just a mile from Llandelio, the stunning 800 acre National Trust Dinefwr Park and Castle are certainly worth a visit. One of the most illustrious places in Welsh history, it was once home to the medieval court of the great Welsh Prince Lord Rhys: Now it offers tours of its vast deer park, a whole programme of varied family events and activities as well as an intriguing blast of the past. Or wander into the prehistoric past at Dan-yr Ogof Showcaves, just 9 miles from Talarbongam, these caves have been voted by the British public as ‘Britain’s finest natural wonder’. The ten miles of accessible caves are awe-inspiring and with the Iron Age Village, the Dinosaur Park, the farm and Barney’s play barn, the site offers something for the whole family to enjoy. The National Botanical gardens also caters well for all ages; just 16 miles from Talarbongam, its enormous glass dome housing plants from across the globe, is an impressive site.

With much of the Gower, Carmarthenshire and South Pembrokeshire coastline accessible in less than an hour’s drive, you’re left spoilt for choice when it comes to coastal adventure. Whether in search of spectacular scenery, every conceivable water sport, coastal paths and cycle tracks, quaint seaside towns and villages or fine gourmet experiences, it’s all easily found. In fact the sights, experiences and facilities on offer are vast and diverse: From city centre shopping in Cardiff or Swansea, to galloping on horseback through Pembrey Country Park and onto the award winning Cefn Sidan sands, to admiring the stunning waterfalls of the National Park: A stay at Talarbongam allows you to create your own, perfect holiday blend.
