The idyllic, historic, coastal town of Laugharne lies just 3 miles from this luxurious farmhouse and can’t be missed. Impressive architecture, pubs, cafes, restaurants and galleries make this unique, little town popular with many. Its magnificent medieval castle dominates the sky line and provided the perfect antidote to writer’s block for the town’s much loved son, Dylan Thomas. Both he and writer Richard Hughes put pen to paper in the castle’s garden summer house and it’s certainly hard for anyone to not feel inspired by this impressive ancient monument; the sensational views it offers across the estuary, its Victorian gardens and all-year round family-friendly events. Enjoy a light lunch alongside the water at the Boat House cafe, in the former home of Dylan Thomas or head to Seaview, his first marital home in the town, lovingly restored and converted into a splendid restaurant. For anyone in search of pampering, Hurst House on the Marsh has spa facilities open to all. Originally a 16th century dairy farm, this hotel’s main house and restaurant overlooks acres of marshland and their own organic kitchen garden: With all produce locally sourced, it’s a great venue for lunches or evening meals. Laugharne Sands marks the start of the famous 7 mile stretch of beach that saw the breaking of many land-speed records during the 1920s and 30s. Ending at the village of Pendine, Pendine Sands is now home to a variety of water sports and a popular destination for beach lovers, while The Museum of Speed, overlooking the sands provides an intriguing blast of the past. Whether taking in April’s fun-packed, Laugharne Weekend, Tenby’s week long, September Arts Festival or the incredible spectacle of the New Years Day swim from Saundersfoot, the area offers all-year round family fun and entertainment. Numerous castles, incredible gardens, nature reserves, theme parks, zoos, coastal paths, quaint seaside towns and villages, boat trips, water-sports, pony-trekking, golf courses, endless outdoor adventure and even a vineyard and chocolate factory are all easily accessible from Maesoland Farmhouse: That’s if you can muster the willingness to leave the luxury, peace and tranquillity of this countryside haven to go and explore!
