Beaumaris

Follow the Menai Strait north-east along the Anglesey coast and you will reach the historic town of Beaumaris with its spectacular scenery and famous Edwardian castle.

Just 23 miles from the popular resort of Conwy, Beaumaris offers tourists its own unique atmosphere. Peaceful strolls down the Victorian pier give visitors a chance to enjoy the many yachts that arrive and depart at Beaumaris, while local facilities include traditional welsh shops, restaurants and pubs.

The main attraction for many visitors to Beaumaris is the castle. Though it was never completed, Beaumaris Castle is the finest example of castle architecture in all of Wales, with its four successive lines of fortifications – something never seen before when it was built in the late 13th century.

Families can spend a whole day exploring the perfectly symmetrical, concentric walls of the castle, with its surrounding moat and stunning mountain views. Admission to the castle is just £3.60 for adults and visitors are welcomed between 9am and 5pm almost all year round.

Beaumaris boasts one of Wales’ best golf courses at Henllys Golf Club, where players can take in 18 holes set in mature parklands.
