With natural beauty particular to the area afforded by the region’s water features, Talybont-on-Usk is a popular destination for lovers of lush scenery and breathtaking views.
Renowned for its healthy wildlife population, the village’s reservoir is a haven for a wide variety of indigenous and migratory wildfowl and wildlife. With road access from the village, the reservoir’s vista is certainly something to behold, overlooking the forests and the Talybont reservoir. This road then continues up the ascent into the surrounding mountains, which makes Talybont-on-Usk a fantastic spot from which to venture on walks up the ridges to the peaks of the Brecon Beacons, and a great place for a self-catered Welsh cottage holiday.
Fishing is very popular at Talybont-on-Usk, with game and coarse fishermen alike able to find plenty of sport here. The River Usk is a prominent wild brown trout and salmon fishery, which are in season between March and September. Day fishing permits are conveniently available from a nearby ticket machine, but care must be taken with waders and buoyancy aids essential. Perfect for the aspiring fisherman, and those who like to fish for fun, a visit can be made to the canal, where the smaller perch, roach, chub and dace can be caught.
