With a status as Britain’s tiniest town, Llanwrtyd Wells also boasts access to some of the few remaining wilderness spots in Britain, providing an excellent setting for those who venture to Wales in search of beautiful scenery, an abundance of wildlife and lots to do.
Walking, pony trekking, horse riding, and mountain biking in the surrounding Cambrian Mountains is all at the heart of what unspoilt landscape has to offer its visitors, who also come to stay here in a Welsh holiday cottage to experience little Llanwrtyd Wells’ ageless and very charming character.
A region steeped in history stretching back to the Stone Age, many of its inhabitants can still be found to speak their Welsh native tongue, Cymraeg. But don’t be fooled - not all here is quite as traditional as you might first think… The town has become famed for its wacky annual events such as the Man v Horse Marathon in June and the World Mountain Bike Bog Snorkeling Championship in August - both now modern traditions, they’ve been going strong since the 1980s!
Close to the town centre, the Llanwrtyd Wells’ train station can be found at street level on Station road, and is one of The Heart of Wales line’s five remaining loops from which you can hop on a train, relax, and traverse the heart of beautiful Mid Wales by locomotive. All trains serving the station are operated by Arriva Trains Wales, and there are four trains per day between Swansea and Shrewsbury from Monday to Saturday, and two services on Sundays.
