Lampeter is a charming university and market town. It nestles in the mid Teifi Valley on the borders of Cardiganshire and Camarthenshire in West Wales. There is plenty of splendid countryside scenery to be enjoyed in the Lampeter area – and wonderful angling on the River Teifi.
Lampeter was established as a market borough in medieval times and it still retains its market town character today. There are regular cattle markets, antique auctions, horse fairs and an annual food festival.
This attractive town is an essential stop on your visit to west Wales. You can enjoy the ambience of this largely unspoilt welsh market town, and perhaps take a stroll through the grounds of the university, where the quadrangle is modelled on that of Oxford University. There are numerous cafes and restaurants where you can relax and enjoy some fine food and drink.
The Romans once mined for gold near Lampeter, at Pumpsaint. The site of the old gold mine is now managed by The National Trust and visitors may obtain a first hand glimpse of the conditions in which gold miners worked in those bygone times.
