West Wales is full of little-known coastal towns and beach resorts that offer an escape from the maddening crowd amid some of the UK’s most beautiful countryside. The village of Aberporth is one such place, with two blue flag beaches located on the edge of a rolling landscape of green hills and woodlands.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, Aberporth’s herring trade was booming, with at least 20 fishing boats using the harbor on a daily basis. Nowadays, the fishing is focused on crab and lobster, which are sold locally and served up in the delicious seafood dishes found in Aberporth’s restaurants.

The Cardigan Bay area is known to attract a rich variety of sea life and Aberporth’s picturesque shoreline is an ideal place to spot bottlenose dolphins, whales, porpoises and even the odd turtle or basking shark in the summer months.

Visitors to Aberporth can choose from a variety of idyllic Welsh countryside cottages when looking for accommodation and the village marks the starting point of a number of wonderful walks in west Wales.

Coastal walks to the nearby village of Tresaith and circular walks around Aberporth are popular all year round, as are longer ventures into the Teifi valley, where the historic Welsh woolen mills are waiting to be explored.
