Throughout the year, there are a host of exciting fun filled festivals and events taking place in Cardigan that will appeal to everyone - Barley Saturday (a parade of horses and vintage vehicles) in April, Cardigan County Agricultural Show in July, The River and Food Festival in August and Cardigan Victorian Evening in December. A boat trip from the town's newly created river side pontoon to the mouth of the Teifi estuary and Cardigan Island is a must. This special conservation area is teeming with wildlife; bottlenose dolphins, atlantic grey seals, harbour porpoises, seabirds, rare choughs and skylarks can all be seen! The same delights can also be enjoyed at the Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park in Gwbert, just over 3 miles away. High above the shores of Cardigan Bay and the Teifi Estuary, is a special place to play golf. If you can take your eyes off the surrounding vistas, including the sea views, the Preseli Hills and the Lleyn Peninsula in the far distance, you will enjoy a memorable and testing round of golf. The Cliff Hotel and Spa and the Gwbert Hotel's Flat Rock Bistro are both lovely venues to enjoy lunch or an evening meal and both overlook the sparkling waters of the estuary to Poppit Sands - a very large expanse of sand which marks the northern border between the counties of Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion and the northern end of the 186 miles of Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. The proximity of this beach to the town of Cardigan makes it very popular with visitors - a beach cafe by the large car park or The Webley Waterfront Hotel a short walk away, ensures a good day out. the picturesque beaches of Mwnt, Aberporth, Trersaith, Penbryn, Llangrannog and Newquay are all a short drive from Cardigan. The stunning Welsh Wildlife Centre stands within the Teifi Marches Nature Reserve on the banks of the River Teifi and can be reached by foot from the Cottage. Spend an afternoon exploring the flora and fauna, admire the grazing water buffalo or venture up the river in a canoe. You will also have plenty to do on those rainy days - Cardigan is home to a theatre, cinema, swimming pool and an indoor play centre for children. This self catering cottage provides the perfect location for those wishing to combine the convenience of staying in a thriving market town and having easy access to award wining beaches, stunning wildlife and the breathtaking scenery of this corner of Wales.
