Cambrian Mountains

Snowdonia National Park and the Breacon Beacons National Park are very likely to be some of the first areas that tourists think of when they think of Wales, where as the Cambrian Mountains bordering both in Mid Wales tends to get somewhat overlooked

This area of Mid Wales, however, is now becoming better known and the secret of the sublime Mid Wales uplands is starting to attract those who love walking and the remoteness that the area offers.

Once known as the "Green Desert of Wales", and generally between 1500 feet and 2000 feet in altitude, this huge area contains no sizeable settlements, except round its edges. Here are born many great rivers, whose valleys divide the plateau, and give the mountains much of their charm, as well as shelter for isolated farmsteads, and routes for walkers.
